Demystifying HUD Rules, HOPA, Federal Occupancy Rules, Section 515, LIHTC and More in Senior Housing Management & Development

As the boomer generation is aging, demand for senior living is high.

This session by our expert speaker Paul Flogstad considers the most important aspects of setting up and running senior living facilities. This course will discuss all the factors that go into a senior living community: from how to get your property to qualify as housing for older persons (HOPA) under HUD rules; to how to structure your payment systems; to the amenities necessary to enhance the daily lives and overall living experience of the tenants.

With the high demand for senior housing, this session will answer many of your real-world questions about this expanding market. Additionally, learn how government agencies operate in this sector and what will be necessary if you intend to provide government-subsidized or rent-controlled services.

Session Highlights:

  • Learn how best to market to seniors.
  • Discover what amenities are considered most important to seniors, especially those who are planning to move to a retirement community.
  • Consider the relationships your prospective community will have with social service agencies.
  • Knowledge of programs: HUD, LIHTC and Section 515 to provide rental assistance to residents
  • Tools to develop, maintain, market, and be in compliance with federal occupancy rules for subsidized programs for senior properties.
  • Understand the legal and practical basis for making room for pets: common misconceptions, and what the Fair Housing Act considers “reasonable accommodations” for seniors with service or companion animals.
