Learn How to Handle Tenants Who May Have a Criminal Background

Since nearly one-third of the total US population has a criminal record of some sort, tenant screening is becoming increasingly trickier by the day. As a landlord or property manager, you have to balance your desire to find good tenants—those who will not create problems for you or your other tenants (if you have a multi-family property)—with the anti-discriminatory guidelines laid out by the HUD. Failure to comply with the HUD and FHA requirements can get you in trouble. Therefore, it is imperative for you to be thoroughly familiar with the federal laws and directives around providing or denying housing to tenants with a criminal background.

Learn what you can and cannot do when it comes to providing or denying your property on rent to someone with a criminal background in this informative webinar by expert speaker Paul Flogstad. He will walk you through the history and basics of discrimination, including the disparate impact rulings and the correct process as of today. Flogstad will also examine HUD’s memos and see what they mean for you today. He will share the best practices on written policies, discuss the information needed to make a legitimate decision, define what a "blanket" ban is, and more!

After attending this webinar, you will be confident in your ability to make informed decisions—compliant with HUD/FHA requirements—while dealing with tenants who may have a criminal background.
