Safeguard Your Property and Residents through Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response

Hurricanes in the south, wildfires in the west, earthquakes, mass shootings, and winter storms coming up – large-scale disasters are in the news at every turn. And did you know that simple residential fires are actually the most common and deadly disasters – a particularly devastating peril for apartment dwellers and property owners. A home fire is ignited every 86 seconds somewhere in the United States, with the greatest number occurring now, between Halloween and New Year’s.

Partnering with residents to plan ahead for (and, where possible, to avoid) disasters is a win-win strategy! Helping them and their loved ones can pay dividends in terms of goodwill, tenant retention, and the overall resiliency of your property.

In this session expert speaker Jo Becker will help you demonstrate concern by identifying and touting the steps you’re already taking to safeguard the property and your residents. It will also walk you through steps you can take to help residents prepare their own households.

Most American households, including renters, include one or more animals. Even if you don’t allow pets on your property, you no doubt have disability-related aid animals on site.  Strategic messages regarding residents’ critters (or, alternatively, children or elders) can increase engagement significantly.

This session will include critter-specific resources as well as general preparation tips, along with free resources, literature, and presentation ideas. You can craft a resident campaign without recreating the wheel! Low- and no-cost steps for residents will also be covered making this session relevant to all including subsidized, income-restricted, and/or retirement communities.
