Don't run afoul of Section 504—know how to serve your disabled tenants

Register now for this 75-minute webinar in which our expert speaker, Andrea Champine, will teach you to avoid common reasonable accommodation pitfalls, with essential insights from reference documents, regulation language, case studies, and from-the-field tips.

Did you know that in 2013, private fair housing organizations, state and local governments, civil and human rights agencies, HUD, and DOJ collectively reported handling 27,352 complaints of housing discrimination? Nearly half of these complaints were based on disability. And recent trends show that complaints frequently involve service and companion animals. When it comes to properly and compliantly serving your disabled tenants' needs, do you know how to answer these basic and important questions?

  • What is the difference between a service animal and a companion animal?
  • What are common errors owners and management agents make?
  • What accommodations are considered reasonable?
  • Does disability status require verification?

Don't put your property in noncompliance jeopardy. Uncover the answers to the above questions and more when you attend this information-packed presentation.

This expert strategy session will help you to:

  • Understand the definition of "disabled"
  • Avoid common owner/agent mistakes, such as charging pet deposits for service animals
  • Effectively comply with verification requirements
  • Recognize which pet rules can be applied to service animals
  • Become familiar with acceptable types of service animals
  • Ensure that your own policies are not faulty
  • Recognize the real-world risks of non-compliance

This presentation is appropriate for property owners, apartment community personnel (including Residential Managers, Leasing Consultants, and Maintenance Technicians), compliance personnel, Section 504 coordinators, service coordinators, and regional property supervisors.

After attending this webinar, you will better understand the key requirements for complying with reasonable accommodation requests related to service and companion animals.
