Avoiding children doesn't solve your lead paint problems, HUD says.

If you haven't yet cleared your units of lead and you use that as an excuse not to rent to families with children, be ready to be on the Department of Housing and Urban Development's bad side.

Nilma Fichera, owner and manager of N.A.G. Realty LLC in New York, is dealing with the fallout of turning away families rather than remove lead-based paint from her rentals, according to a HUD charge. Fichera is accused of advertising a three-bedroom rental on Craigslist. ......
